Cycling & Erectile Dysfunction Connection
There are many kinds of sports and some are more popular than the others. Cycling is actually very popular. Its advantage is in its simplicity. It is equally enjoyable just to have a nice ride along the river or to take part in a serious competition. For some people it is a pleasant pastime, a hobby; for others it is a profession, something to live on.
Cycling has never been considered dangerous and if the term was implemented then only in the meaning of falling from it or being hit by other transport. It can not be compared with skydiving or boxing in this respect. So, people do not consider it harmful for health. Nevertheless there is some risk from the exercise to the male half though it is rarely discussed around. There is a possibility that cycling can affect male genitals and even evoke erectile dysfunction in men.
The pudendal arteries are situated underneath the pubic bone. They are blood vessels and continuous sitting on something as hard as a saddle creates the compression in them and lessens the oxygen intake. Thus, we have got an injury as a result. It is distinguished by the tingling singular or repeated and do not usually give much trouble. Nevertheless it is serious and should not be taken for grunted. If the condition is observed early and treated accordingly in time then it can be reversed; but in most cases men are just unaware that there is any risk at all.Furthermore the consequences of the permanent cycling are numbness, pelvic and penile pain, and erectile dysfunction. If the condition is neglected there will be very difficult to deal with it.
Recent researches showed that 91% of the police officers who spend approximately 5 hours a day on the bicycle experienced numbness of the penis and groin. They also had less nighttime erections. The more the time spent on the bicycle saddle, the more possible the risk of injury, it seems.
But does this necessarily always have to be the case? There are a lot of men who do cycling and do not have any troubles with their sexual health.
The percentage data is such that only 17% of 688 cyclists from the recent research developed erectile dysfunction and this figure is just as that of the general population. This all is very contradicting but it is better to take some measures beforehand in order not to deal with the consequences afterwards. So if you like cycling and do not want to quit it then you'd better do some changes to this activity.
They are simple. First, wear proper padded cycling shorts. Secondly, use a good saddle; all the pressure points should be on the sit bones. Thirdly, the saddle should be wide with a good padding. Then, the saddle should be blunt or spoutless. Also, keep the bicycle saddle parallel to the ground; do not keep it upwards. And finally, do not spend too mush time leaning over the racing bars as this increases the compression.
If you follow some of these precautions there will be no need to stop your favourite exercise. You will enjoy it with even more pleasure. Just do not forget about of pudendal artery compression and do not leave numbness or tingling in penis or perineum without attention. This is serious and can lead from nerve damage to erectile dysfunction.
Use some of the tips given above and save yourself from unnecessary injuries as well as your sexual health.
